The Meaning Behind the Name
Sirius' LiveJournal name is based off of his nickname, Padfoot, which was given to him by his school friends. He was given the name because he became an Animagus, and could turn into a large, bear-like dog with, you guessed it, padded feet.

Sirius' first name is the name of a star, also, ironically, called the "dog star", which may have something to do with his Animagus transformation.

Size: 6'1, 176lbs

Sexuality: Heterosexual, but not interested; he's much more concerned with his friends than with a love-life, and having a girlfriend, lover or wife would, in his mind, be a bit of a hold-up. He values his freedom.

Personality

Sirius is, in turns, proud (and nearly arrogant, as a teenager), fun-loving, daring, caring, generous, loving, haughty and independent. He loves to be in the thick of trouble (and usually has to be, owing to the fact that he probably caused said trouble in the first place), and feels very strongly about people standing up for what they believe in. He can be stubborn, and won't give an inch if he feels he's correct in something. In a good mood, however, he can be extremely fun, exciting, and can make friends easily. His worst trait is his pride; he can't stand to be insulted, would sooner cut off an arm than lose a fight or have someone else finish it for him. If his pride is wounded, he'll most likely become sullen and avoid most of humanity for a great deal of time before coming back to earth rather awkwardly. However, as he sticks to his close friends, this is not likely to happen on a regular basis.

History

Sirius was born to the legendary and noble house of Black, the older of two brothers. His parents, pureblood and Muggle-haters, tried to force their ideals upon their oldest son to no success: At the age of sixteen, Sirius ran away from home and went to live with his best friend, James Potter. While he never showed much liking for his family, his loyalty to his friends was strong, having said himself that he would have died rather than betray them. Even after leaving Hogwarts, he remained close with his three best friends: James Potter, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew, who, together with the exception of Lupin, had discovered how to transform into Animagi.

When James and Lily Potter discovered that Lord Voldemort wanted to kill them and their infant son, they went into hiding, using the Fidelius Charm (a complicated charm involving the details of a location within a single, living soul known as a Secret Keeper) and Sirius as Secret Keeper. It worked well for a time, but at the last minute, Sirius, for an unknown reason, made James and Lily switch the Secret Keeper duties over to Peter Pettigrew. Within days, Lily and James were dead, Harry was sent to his aunt and uncle's, and Pettigrew had vanished. Sirius, realizing what he had done in changing Keepers, went to confront Pettigrew at once to avenge Lily and James on their betrayer. To save his own skin, Pettigrew shouted for the entire street to know that Sirius had betrayed Lily and James, and when Sirius went for his wand, Pettigrew blew up the entire street and disappeared into the sewer as a rat, taking with him the lives of thirteen Muggles. Sirius was taken to Azkaban Prison by the Ministry of Magic, where he remained for twelve years until he broke out, on a mission once more to kill Pettigrew.

Through circumstance, Pettigrew escaped, though some good did come of said circumstances: Sirius was briefly reunited with his godson, Harry Potter, before going back on the run to escape a second imprisonment.

After Lord Voldemort's return the next year, Sirius, the sole heir to the house of Black, offered his parents' home as headquarters for the resistance, the Order of the Phoenix, where he was told to remain for most of the year, as it was the safest place for him; the Ministry would never go there. However, when he learned Harry was in mortal danger in the Ministry, he went there at once with several other members of the Order. There, unfortunately, he met his death at the hands of his oldest cousin, Bellatrix Lestrange.
